A New Conversation in Design - Let’s Talk! In Kovai
Bringing Ideas, Industry & Inspiration Together
The DJ Academy of Design (DJAD), Coimbatore, in association with CII Young Indians (Yi) and supported by Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW), launched “Let’s Talk! In Kovai” – a public talk series aimed at fostering dialogue in design.
The inaugural session was held at Mani Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore.
Design as a Driver of Innovation
In his address, Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu highlighted:
“Design is a fundamental driver of innovation — an area where India needs to strengthen itself.”
He noted that:
- The design industry today stands alongside major sectors like automotive and steel
- Platforms like this enable knowledge sharing and innovation
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)enhances creativity when used responsibly
- DJAD is already integrating AI into its design education practices
He also reinforced DJAD’s mission to:
- Instil design thinking among students
Contribute to the Make in India initiative
Bringing the Outside World Inside the Campus
Delivering the keynote, Suresh Eriyat appreciated DJAD’s academic approach:
- Practicing designers actively teach students
- Learning is rooted in real-world experience and industry relevance
On the talk series, he shared:
“This platform exposes students to new perspectives and ideas they may not have imagined.”
He also:
- Expressed strong belief in Gen Z’s creativity and energy
- Encouraged responsible use of AI
Advocated for Indian storytelling in animation, rooted in local culture
Strengthening Community & Collaboration
Lalitha Devi Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu highlighted DJAD’s ongoing outreach:
- Collaborations with schools in Coimbatore and Pollachi
- Hands-on programmes for school art teachers
- Faculty-led school engagement initiatives
These efforts will continue in association with CII Young Indians.
