Sarita Sundar
Sarita Sundar is a designer, design historian, and academician who leads Hanno (www.hanno.in), a heritage interpretation and design consultancy. With over three decades of experience in brand design and strategy, alongside training in museum studies, she brings a thoughtful, practice-led approach to shaping projects, programmes, and cultural narratives.
Her work explores how culture finds expression through the visual – from Indian vernacular typography to performance practices. As an academic advisor and curator, she is particularly interested in making history accessible, inclusive, and participatory, often working collaboratively to develop exhibitions and frameworks that invite multiple voices and perspectives.
She enjoys working closely with institutions, students, and communities – guiding processes, building connections, and helping ideas take form in ways that are both rigorous and engaging.
Her book, From the Frugal to the Ornate: Stories of the Seat in India, traces the life of an everyday object while rethinking how design histories are told. A Fulbright Fellow (2022), she continues to work across research, writing, and collaborative projects, including an ongoing exploration of the Planter’s Chair.
